Water Treatment for Argentinean Zoo

Water Treatment for Argentinean Zoo

TEMAIKEN is the name of the zoo built in mid-2002 approx. 31 miles (50 km) from Buenos Aires in Argentina. Visitors are presented with 34 hectares of fascinating insights into the animal world and flora of the different regions and continents. Architecture is perfectly designed for the unique environment. The water treatment system is extremely important for the "residents". The Aquarium and entire seascapes require a total water treatment of 449,092 ft³ (1,700 m³). The water treatment system is equal to that of a city with 150,000 inhabitants.

The system for cleaning and disinfection the water uses the conventional methods (feculence segregation, sand and activated carbon filtration). However, the Operators have chosen a further disinfection step with Ozone metering to ensure disinfection.

The 12 Bono Zon®, type BONa ProMinent ozone generation plants supplied, together generate more than 1,500 gram of Ozone per hour. The generators work in separate loops (i.e. each of them provides a single pond or an aquarium with the required amount of Ozone). Also included in the scope of supply was all the prime moving pumps as well as the water treatment system.

For some of the aquaria, components must be produced from a special polymer in order to avoid endangering the sensitive localization organs of the aquarium residents.

ProMinent not only provided the water treatment system, but also provided training and start up for the operators. Both operators and the residents of the water paradise are happy.
